The "Waiting for the Light" Series

Our range of "Waiting for the Light" photographic art cards are grouped into 4 themed sets of 5 fine-art quality cards. Each card measures 210mm x 148mm folded (A5). The cards sets are displayed below. Choose from the 'Tranquility Collection', the 'Coastal Collection', the 'Dawn to Dusk Collection, and the 'Environments Collection'. Envelopes are included. The cards are left blank for your own message inside.

Waiting for the Light card series set 'A' : The Tranquility Collection

"Dawn sweeps through the sky, reflecting in the still waters. All is calm, tranquil, ethereal. I live for moments like this. I've been stood by the tripod, watching as the darkness broke, waiting for the light.

As the first rays of the day paint the landscape I take an exposure reading and start to expose. I sweep my eye from corner to corner of the eyepiece. There should be nothing anywhere in the frame that distracts from the simple lines of the composition. Photography is the art of knowing what to leave out. The simplest pictures are, without doubt, the best."

"I'm huddling in the cold, feeling wind-battered, sodden and despondent, waiting for the light. Will these clouds ever part? Looks like another fruitless vigil. A faint lightening of the sky far out to sea rouses me from my musings.

There's yet another downpour rolling in, I'll get another soaking, but behind it the sun is threatening to break though. I'm scrabbling in my bag to get the camera back on the tripod, glancing over my shoulder at the ever more dramatic sky. For just seconds a heavenly shaft of sparkling light backlights the scene. Waiting, waiting, waiting. It's the name of the game."

"It's been the usual game of checking the map, getting the boots on and trudging across the landscape to find locations. Under leaden grey skies i find a scene and visualise how it could look with a dash of dawn light at this time of year.
Now a location is sorted I feel relieved, that's the difficult bit done, the photography seems easy by comparison. But I need my old Pal Mother Nature on side, and she can never be taken for granted. So, after the usual rise before the crack of dawn, I've adopted my default setting: kicking my heels by the tripod, scanning the sky to the east, waiting for the light and thinking of breakfast. There were stars overhead when I rose, but now as the light seeps through the sky a bank of cloud slides in. I hang around in the gloom for an hour, hoping for a break. It doesn't happen - try again tomorrow."

"To the east the first glimmer of pink light is tingeing the sky. My pace increases as I feel the excitement and tension of what may be the shot of the trip unfolding. I turn around with gasping lungs and there is the view, I'll never forget this sight.
I have a few seconds gazing in awe before battling with the tripod. With my cold fingers attaching the filter rings on the lens thread is a fuss and I'm aware of the brightening sky. I haven't come this far to miss the sunrise. The sun peeks over the horizon and paints the landscape. Shoot. Check everything. Damn... the filters misted up. Wipe it. Take another spot meter off the cloud. Reset exposure, shoot a few more, bracket exposures. Check everything again. The cloud is now obscuring the scene. That was it, all over in maybe two minutes. Did I get it?"
